St. Brigid’s Day
St. Brigid’s day was the first of February. We celebrated by making a cloak using lots of different colours.

History
This month in history we learned about Ancient Rome. We learned about the Roman soldiers, the pastimes and hobbies of ancient Romans, Gladiators, Roman Gods, Famous Buildings and Emperors. We worked in groups to complete projects on Ancient Rome. We finished off with a quiz about the Rotten Romans.

Geography
Because we were looking at Ancient Rome, we also did some research on Italy. The capital city of Italy is Rome, the river Po runs through Italy and the tallest mountain is Monte Bianco. Italy is famous for food such as pasta, pizza, lasagne, spaghetti and garlic bread. We made salt dough pizzas in art but we didn’t eat them!

Science
In Science we did a Valentine’s experiment to grow salt crystals on pipe cleaner hearts. The experiment is still not finished but some crystals have grown already!

Maths
We spent a lot of time learning about time. We used analogue and digital clocks, played Bingo and got to play lots of time games on the whiteboard. We also learned about 3D shapes, directions and Fractions.

Art
Love was in the air this month. We were busy bees making our ‘Bee Mine’ Valentine’s Cards. We decorated our Salt Dough Pizzas, made Roman Shields, built Roman Soldiers, and made Egg-Carton Daffodils.

PE
In PE we played Uni-hoc, did lots of GoNoodle and took part in Operation Transformation. For the 10 @ 10, we organised a fitness class for Ms. Lyng’s Junior and Senior Infants, showing them lots of different exercises.
First Confession
Second Class made their First Confession on Wednesday 22nd. They had a great night and their singing was wonderful! The church was decorated with lovely artwork of sheep and footsteps.
Pancake Tuesday
At the very end of February we had Pancake Tuesday. Everyone in the class got a pancake. Only 3 people had lemon and sugar, everyone else had chocolate!!
