March

World Book Day

March started off with World Book Day where we dressed up as our favourite characters from a book and took part in a fashion show with the whole school in the hall.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ann idir 1-17 Márta. Bhí comortas idir Rang 2 agus Rang 3. Bhí Oíche Saor den Obair Bhaile le fáil don rang a bhí ag úsáid an chuid is mó Gaeilge thar an coicíse. Bhí an bua ag Rang 2.

St. Patrick’s Day

For St. Patrick’s Day we made beautiful rainbow chains with a pot of gold at the end. They looked lovely hanging up in the class. We also made St. Patrick’s Day badges that we could wear to the parade.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was on Sunday 26th March and everyone made a huge effort in making a lovely card card for all the marvelous Mammies out there.

Water Action Day

As we are earning our Green Flag for Water Conservation, Ms. Delaney’s 5th and 6th class treated us to a Water Action Day. There were lots of games, races and activities for us to take part in. We got to wear blue clothes and we got ice-cream with blue decorations! A big thanks to 5th and 6th class and Ms. Delaney for all the hard work they put in to organising the day.

English

This month in English we learned about different kinds of poems. We wrote Limericks, poems about St. Patrick and our Mammies and Cinquains about our homes.

Maths

In Maths we spent time learning about weight. We measured the weight of lots of different things, discovered which items were heavier or lighter than others and added and subtracted weights. To finish, we had to follow a recipe for buns and weigh out our ingredients before mixing them together. Ms. Rea baked the buns at home and we got to decorate them the next day. They looked delicious.

History

As part of History we learned about St. Patrick and Early Christian Ireland. We learned who lived in Monasteries, what they did and the different types of buildings they had. All the sweet tubs from Christmas were put to good use as we built our Monasteries inside their walls. When they were finished, we displayed them in the hall and invited the other classes to come and see them so we could tell them all we had learned.

Science & Geography

As we had built our own Monasteries, we decided to look at our own homes and investigate the materials used to make them. We got to handle all sorts of building materials and describe them and we went on a trail around the school to spot them. We tested some of the materials to see if they were magnetic or flexible and finally, we tested them all to see if they were waterproof or not.

Religion

Everyone is doing a great job of keeping up their Lenten promises. 2nd class have also started some of the art for their First Holy Communion with help from 3rd Class.
