PE Equipment

We are in the process of updating a P.E. Audit of the schools P.E. equipment. Thanks to the fundraising from Split the Pot we were able to purchase some new equipment this year. The Active Flag committee have been busy tidying the storage room and labelling the items, to make sure we know where everything is. Have a look at the progress they are making.

Dance –  Priority Strand

All classes attended dance classes with Ann Marie for 12 weeks. It was a great experience for everyone. Each class learned two dances during this time to perform in our Christmas Dance show which was to be followed by a very fun disco.  Check out a clip from the performances below. We definitely have some very talented dancers here in Adamstown N.S.

Athletics

Junior Infants up to 3rd class have been working with James, the GAA coach, on their running and jumping technique for PE during the month of February. The Fundamental movement skills are so important at this young age. Have a look at how much fun they all had.

Games

From November we were lucky enough to have a GAA coach come into the school every Thursday. He started with the older end of the school – 4th to 6th class. Each class got a 40 minute slot each week to work on football skills. All the children had great fun and skills were enhanced greatly.

Children from 3rd – 6th are all encouraged to work on their hurling skills at lunch time on a Thursday with James. Children bring their gear and spare shoes/boots, socks and trousers. Great fun is had by all.

In January the focus moved towards the younger end of the school. The infants, 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes all benefited from these coaching sessions. The target for the younger end of the school was on developing their fundamental skills and working on the ABC’s (agility, balance and co-ordination). They also working on the basic throwing, catching and striking skills.

We have been lucky enough to have two fantastic Gymnastics instructors come to our school for a 5 week block. Our first session was on Monday 4th February. Our two coaches, Aisling and Aisling, from Wexford Gymnastics took all the children from Junior Infants up to 6th class. We learned how to do handstands, forward rolls, backward rolls, body balances and so much more.

We have some fantastic gymnasts in Junior and Senior Infants also.
