Active Flag Committee
We went through an application process in order to pick the correct members for our Active Flag. Children had to fill out an application form based on their reasons for wishing to be a member of the committee and what qualities they would bring. We chose 2 children from each class. The applications were fantastic and it was a difficult task to narrow it down. Well done to all those who made the committee.
Slogan Competition
One of the first jobs the Active Flag Committee had was to organise a Slogan Competition. They had some excellent entries from all classes. The winning entry was - Grab your Kit and go Get Fit.
Playmaker Award
What is the PlayMaker Award?
The PlayMaker Award is a great introduction into leadership giving learners knowledge of how to organise small games and activities that can be used during curricular and extracurricular time, lunchtimes, breaks, as well as in sports clubs outside school hours. The PlayMaker Award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of assisting in leading their peers and younger children.
Who is the PlayMaker Award for?
Anyone can become a PlayMaker, regardless of their sporting experience or prowess. The PlayMaker Award is designed in a way so that learners can participate and learn about key leadership skills. The recommended age range is 9-11.
As part of our Active School Week 2019, the children in 4th and 5th got the opportunity to participate in the PlayMaker Award

What club are you in?
We are an active group of students and are members in many local clubs. The Active Schools Committee completed a ‘What Club Are You In?’ survey and take a look at the variety of clubs our students are involved in.
Super Troopers
We signed up for Super Troopers in both the 2018/2019 school year and the 2019/2020 school year. It has provided the children with Active Homework every night and has some fantastic and simple games included.
The programme has been developed with educational specialists, alongside experts in physical activity, nutrition, well-being and psychology. The health homework programme attempts to give equal prominence to health as is given to academic subjects. It includes short burst, fun activities which can involve all the family.

Achievements Wall
In Adamstown NS we like to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements the children make in clubs they are members of. At each assembly we ask the children to share their achievements with us and get photos to put on our Achievements board for the whole school community to see. It's fantastic to see the variety of sports the children are participating in. Have a look through some of the pictures we have so far.
Aquatics
Each year children from 4th, 5th and 6th participate in a series of Swimming lessons in the Aura Swimming pool in New Ross. We are very lucky to have such a great swimming pool close by with fantastic swimming instructors.
Family Fun Evening
We often host a Family Fun evening in the school. The pupils, staff and parents come together to organise a fantastic event that raises funds for the school. Activities inlcude bouncy castles, soak your teacher, bottle stall, name the teddy, giant target throwing, egg throwing and many more. It has been a huge success thanks to the hard work put in by all members of the community. We are very lucky to have so many generous companies around us who supply prizes on the day. Thanks to everyone for all their continued support.
Fruit Friday
In September 2019, Eoin in 1st class, entered a competition on Today FM to win €10,000 and a fruit day in the school. Eoin's poem made it into the final but unfortunately we didn't win on the day. Check out the link below to view the fantastic poem
To celebrate Eoin's success we held our own Fruit Friday in the school.
Rackard League and Rounders
Every year the children in 5th and 6th participate in the local Rackard league and Rounders leagues. It's a great opportunity to wear the school jersey and have fun with your friends. Thanks to everyone who helps organise the events, from the co-coordinators, the referees and the teachers.
Skip n Rope Workshop
In January 2020 we had an amazing Skip n Rope workshop in the school. Each class got a chance to learn a few skills on the day. Thanks to Mark for an amazing day. Have a look at some of the photos.
Outside coaches |
Each year we have a selection of coaches come into the school to teach the children in certain areas of the PE curriculum. We've been lucky enough to have a GAA coach, James, assigned to our school for the year. We also had gymnastics coaches give each class lessons. See our physical activity page for more up to date information on the coaches who come into the school
Active breaks resources
We utilise a lot of online resources to provide the classes with active breaks each day. Some of our favourite activities to use are Operation Transformations 10@ 10, Go Noodle, Bizzy Breaks and Joe Wicks Body Coach resources for schools. Joe Wicks PE lessons daily were a fantastic resource during the Covid-19 lockdown.
