Active Home Week 2020
National ‘Active SCHOOL Week’ takes place every April and is a really enjoyable part of the school year for many children.
This year, because of COVID-19, it was not possible for this to go ahead so we asked the families of our school to participate in the ‘Active HOME Week‘ challenge instead. Our Active Home Week took place from the 27th April to the 3rd May.
The aim of this initiative was to motivate young people to keep active at home by trying out NEW activities, taking on CHALLENGES and having FUN with family activities. To complete the challenge young people, had to find four different ways of being active every day, making sure that this adds up to 60 minutes, or more, of physical activity. All members of the family were encouraged to take on the challenge.
To help with this we distributed the IDEAS word cloud made up of some of the excellent ideas, resources and challenge. Many of these ideas could be viewed in action and in one place by visiting @activeflag. There was something to suit all ages, abilities and interests, including indoor and outdoor options, with NEW ideas added daily. Click the button below to see the word cloud.

We then sent all the children a challenge card to fill out during the week. The children had to record the activities they participated throughout the day for 7 days. Have a look at some of the completed charts we received back below.
As part of the week we organised a competition on our Twitter page. We asked parents to send in pictures or videos of their children doing any activity during Active Home Week. We organised prizes to be sent to the homes of the winners. Check out some of the amazing entries we got below.
Active School Week 2019
Our Active School week took place from Tuesday 7th May to Friday 10th May. We had a wide range of activities each day. Each class assigned Active Homework and we held an Acrostic poem competition. Tracksuits replaced uniforms for both the children and teachers all week long. Have a look at some of the activities we got up to.
See the below slideshow for the activities we had on each day:
Tuesday 7th May

Park Run Visit from Junior Park Run in Wexford, followed by a mini park run of our own in the local community centre
An obstacle course organised by the Active Flag Committee
Some classes made use of the outdoor gym equipment located beside the football pitches in Adamstown
Wednesday 8th May
We were lucky enough to have former Wexford footballer, Antony Masterson come to our school. Anthony coached a gaelic football and fundamental movement session for each class.
Thursday 9th May
4th and 5th class got the opportunity to participate in the Playmaker Award. This is where the children learn to become playground helpers and how to set up games for the younger classes. The PlayMaker Award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of assisting in leading their peers and younger children. Thanks to Sports Active Wexford for organising this day for us.
We kick started the day with some Wake Up, Shake up in the yard. The Active Flag Committee did a fantastic job of organizing this event.
Walter Walsh, Kilkenny hurler, and MIchael Furlong, Wexford footballer, called into the school for a chat and they even stayed to help referee a few matches.
Friday 10th May
Linda and Lisa Bolger, Wexford Camogie stars, were kind enough to offer their time to coach a fundamental movement skill session for each class. Check out the photos
The children loved wearing their favourite colours for Jersey Day.
Some of the classes got to participate in a Rugby session with Brendan.
