These are the 6 strands covered in the Primary P.E. Curriculum throughout your child’s years in primary school.
· Games
· Athletics
· Dance
· Gymnasstics
· Outdoor and Adventure Activities
· Aquatics
Each Class group receives 1 hour of P.E. per week. Each class is taught 5 out of the 6 strands each year. Children in 4th, 5th and 6th attend aquatics lessons for 8 weeks.
By taking part in the Active School Flag Programme it is helping us to focus on an improved provision of Physical Education in the school. We ensure that as per our Whole School PE Plan, all of our PE activities are planned so that they are accessible by all pupils. In this way, we always encourage our parents to liase with us if their child has any issue that we need to be aware of when teaching our PE lessons. We will also give feedback to parents on their child’s progress in PE in PT meetings and in their annual school report.
Our priority strand for 2019/2020 is Games. We have the help of coaching officer, James Flynn. James comes to the school once a week to take classes for a games based P.E. lesson. Teachers assist in these lessons and learn a lot of new ideas themselves.

P.E. Equipment
We carry out regular audits of our PE Equipment where we dispose of old or broken equipment. Our equipment and resources are clearly labelled, well organised and easily accessible in our PE store. Each of our Active Flag Committee members has a scheduled time each week to tidy the P.E. store room to ensure it remains accessible to all.
P.E. Hall Timetable
We are lucky enough to have access to a large P.E. Hall across the road from the school. Each class has a timetabled slot each week to ensure that even on wet days P.E. lessons can continue.
Games
We are very lucky to have James Flynn come into school each week to assist in the teaching of the games strand. James is the GAA coaching development officer so his primary focus is the skills needed for GAA. This includes many of the fundamental movement skills in the younger classes.
Two teachers in the school also attended the Move Well, Move often training days in the school year 2018/2019. On return to school they shared their knowledge of the programme with the staff during a Croke Park meeting. These Fundamental Movement skills were then embedded in the whole school P.E. plan. Each classroom has access to the resource book which consists of a wealth of fantastic games for the children to play. Have a look at some of the pictures below to see what we have been up to.

Athletics
Children in all classes enjoy the athletics strand. There is a fantastic athletics club in Adamstown already and many of the children attend classes outside of school. The athletics club help to organise activities for the school throughout the year, such as the Sports Hall athletics and obstacle courses for our Family Fun evening. Have a look at some of the lessons we have done in school in the slideshow below.
Below is a slide show from the Sports Hall Athletics held in the school year 2018/2019
Each year the school participates in the Bree Sports Competition - now moved to the Sports Hub in Enniscorthy. It's a great day out for the children.
Gymnastics
Each year we have gymnastics coaches who come in to teach the children some basic gymnastic movements. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn some tips for both teachers and students on various activities that can be carried out in schools. Have a look at some of the pictures below.
Dance
Each year we have a dance teacher, Anne- Marie, come to our school to teach dance to all the classes. These dance lessons lead to dance performances by each class at our Christmas Concert each year. The children thoroughly enough these lessons and we have many talented dancers among us.
Aquatics
Children from 4th, 5th and 6th attend swimming lessons each year in the Apex, New Ross. We are so lucky to have a great swimming pool so close by with fantastic instructors.
Outdoor and Adventure
Children love the lessons surrounding outdoor and Adventure. It's a great opportunity to try out some new skills.
